Once I started experimenting with different flavors of my State Fair Lemonade, mango quickly moved to the top of the list. My daughter had to have a bottle of mango syrup for her homemade refreshers, but my son has never been a fan of those drinks. So I figured I'd see what would happen if I added that sweet, tropical mango flavor to one of his favorite lemonades instead. Let’s just say it was a huge success. I’ve already lost track of how many of these he’s gone through. The sweet mango syrup pairs perfectly with the bright, fresh lemon flavor, creating a lemonade that tastes refreshing, a little tropical, and like summer in a cup.

What do I serve with this?
FAQs (Because Life’s Too Busy for Guesswork)
Yes. Lemons often have a layer of wax and can carry germs from being handled at the store. Give them a good rinse under warm water or soak them briefly in vinegar. No soap needed.
If you want more tartness, start with less sugar or add extra lemon juice. If it’s too sour, stir in more sugar. To tone it down without changing the flavor, just add water.
No. Rolling them can actually waste some of the oils on the countertop. Muddling the lemons with the sugar pulls out all the juice and oils you need, right into the drink.
Yes, you can use fresh mango instead of the syrup. Keep in mind that it won't give you the same flavor as a state fair mango lemonade. It will taste more like a homemade mango lemonade. You'll want to add about 1/2 cup of diced ripe mango to the container with the sugar before adding the lemons. Mash it until broken down, then continue with the recipe as written.
These flavored syrups are becoming increasingly popular. You can sometimes find them at big box stores, especially places like Marshalls or TJ Maxx. I usually purchase mine online because it gives me the most options.
What are substitutions that I can make?
- Lemon – You can use limes instead of lemons to make a mango limeade.
- Water – If you would like, you can use sparkling water instead of regular water for extra fizz.
- Mango syrup – You can use 1/4 cup of fresh diced mango muddled into the lemon instead of the syrup for a fresher fruit flavor.
How should I store my mango lemonade?
- Keep your Mango Lemonade in a tightly sealed container in the fridge, and it’ll stay fresh for up to three days. Store it without ice so it doesn’t get watered down, and give it a quick stir before serving. If you leave the lemon wedges in the container, the flavor will continue to develop as it sits.
