Stephanie's Tips

• Use plain Greek yogurt for this recipe. Vanilla buffalo chicken dip is a level of chaos that even I am not interested in trying.
• Make sure your cream cheese is softened before mixing so you don't end up chasing little chunks of cream cheese around the bowl.
• Rotisserie chicken makes this incredibly easy, but leftover cooked chicken works just as well.
• Want more heat? Add a little extra buffalo sauce, a few dashes of hot sauce, or a pinch of cayenne pepper.
• Give the dip a few minutes to sit after it comes out of the oven. It will still be plenty hot, but everything gets a chance to settle before you dive in.

Greek Yogurt Buffalo Chicken Dip ingredients

  • Rotisserie chicken: Four cups of shredded chicken make this dip hearty and give us plenty of protein. Rotisserie chicken is my favorite shortcut, but leftover cooked chicken works too.
  • Greek yogurt: Plain Greek yogurt makes up the creamy base and adds that slight tang that works so well with buffalo sauce.
  • Cream cheese: We're not getting rid of the cream cheese completely! A little gives us that rich, creamy texture I still want in my buffalo chicken dip.
  • Buffalo sauce: This brings the tangy buffalo flavor and the heat. You can always add a little more if you like things spicy.
  • Mozzarella cheese: Melts right into the creamy base and adds plenty of cheesy goodness.
  • Green onions: Add a fresh onion flavor that works perfectly with buffalo and ranch.
  • Ranch seasoning: Because buffalo and ranch belong together, obviously.
  • Cheddar cheese: Goes over the top of our Baked Buffalo Chicken Dip so we get that golden, bubbly cheese layer coming out of the oven.

How to make Greek Yogurt Buffalo Chicken Dip

Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a 1-quart baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.

Add the shredded rotisserie chicken, Greek yogurt, softened cream cheese, buffalo sauce, mozzarella cheese, sliced green onions, and ranch seasoning to the bowl of your mixer. Mix until everything is well combined.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the dip is hot and bubbly and the cheese on top is golden brown.

Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.

Let the dip sit for a few minutes before serving, then grab your favorite dippers and dig in.

What should I serve with Greek Yogurt Buffalo Chicken Dip?

You can go the classic appetizer route and serve this dip hot with tortilla chips, crackers, bagel chips, carrots, or celery. But don't stop there! I also love that this can become the base for an easy lunch or dinner. Stuff it into a wrap, pile it onto a sandwich, or add it to a bowl with some crunchy veggies. Basically, make the dip once and then see how many excuses you can find to eat it.

FAQs (Because Life’s Too Busy for Guesswork)

Does Greek Yogurt Buffalo Chicken Dip taste strongly like Greek yogurt?

No! Most of the time when I make this, people don't even realize it's made with Greek yogurt until I tell them. The Greek yogurt adds a nice creamy tang and helps balance some of the heat from the buffalo sauce.

What kind of Greek yogurt should I use?

Use plain Greek yogurt for this recipe. Full-fat Greek yogurt will give you the richest and creamiest result, but a lower-fat plain Greek yogurt can also be used. Just make sure you grab plain and not a flavored yogurt.

Can Greek Yogurt Buffalo Chicken Dip be made in the crockpot?

Definitely! Mix the ingredients together and transfer the dip to your slow cooker. Cook on LOW for about 1 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until everything is melted and heated through. Switch the slow cooker to WARM for serving.

Can I make Baked Buffalo Chicken Dip ahead of time?

Yes! Assemble the dip in the baking dish, cover it, and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours. When you're ready to serve it, bake according to the recipe. Since you're starting with a cold dip, it may need a few extra minutes in the oven to become hot and bubbly.

How can I make Greek Yogurt Buffalo Chicken Dip spicier?

Add a little extra buffalo sauce to taste or mix in a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce. A pinch of cayenne pepper is another easy way to turn up the heat without adding much additional liquid to the dip.

Substitutions and variations

  • Chicken: Rotisserie chicken keeps things ridiculously easy, but any cooked and shredded chicken will work. This is also a great place to use leftover chicken.
  • Greek yogurt: Plain Greek yogurt is what you want here. Full-fat will give you the richest texture, while lower-fat Greek yogurt can also be used.
  • Cream cheese: Neufchâtel cheese can be substituted for regular cream cheese.
  • Mozzarella cheese: Monterey Jack is a great substitute and melts beautifully.
  • Cheddar cheese: Sharp or mild cheddar both work. Pepper Jack is another great option if you want to bring a little extra heat.
  • Ranch seasoning: Homemade ranch seasoning can be used instead of the packet. Use about 3 tablespoons.
  • Buffalo sauce: Add a little extra to taste for a stronger buffalo flavor. You can also add hot sauce or cayenne pepper for more heat without adding a ton of extra liquid.

How should I store Greek Yogurt Buffalo Chicken Dip?

Store leftover Greek Yogurt Buffalo Chicken Dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days. Reheat individual portions in the microwave in short intervals until heated through. You can also transfer the dip to an oven-safe dish and warm it at 350°F until hot. Try not to overheat it since too much heat can cause the Greek yogurt to separate.
