Equipment

  • Ghost molds
  • Edible spray gold (optional)
  • Edible gold dust
  • Small paintbrush
  • Vodka to mix edible gold dust
  • Plate
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Large spoon
  • Saucepan
  • Cooking Spray (Olive Oil)

Ingredients

  • 1 box Jello 3 oz: Purple Orange, & Green
  • 1 cup boiling water per flavor
  • ½ cup Vodka per flavor
  • ½ cup cold water per flavor
  • 1 envelope of Gelatin per flavor

Instructions

  • Combine the Jello powder and gelatin in a medium saucepan or heat-safe bowl. Pour boiling water and stir until the gelatin has dissolved. Once dissolved, mix in the cold water, then the Vodka.
  • Repeat these steps for the other two Jello flavors.
  • Place the ghost mold on a flat plate for easier handling. Using a measuring spoon, pour the Jello into the mold, alternating flavors for each row. Refrigerate the Jello shot ghosts for 8 hours or overnight.
  • Once set and firm, spray the bottoms of the ghosts with cooking spray to help with removal and prevent sticking. Run warm water over the bottom of the mold for 15-20 seconds, then gently turn the mold inside out to release the ghosts.
  • In a small bowl, mix a tiny amount of vodka with edible gold to create a paint-like consistency. Use a small paintbrush to apply the gold dust to the ghosts' faces. For extra shine, optionally spray with edible gold spray for extra shine.
  • Let dry for 1-2 minutes, then store the ghosts in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Notes

  • I find it easier to remove them from the mold if left overnight.
  • Push each side of the ghosts out simultaneously to prevent a piece of the ghost from getting stuck inside the mold.
  • There should be more gold dust than vodka to apply it smoothly onto the Jello shots.
  • Serve Jell-O shot ghosts on a platter, and if the room is warm, set the Jell-O shot ghosts on top of a tray with ice to prevent them from melting.
