Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk or spoon

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 12 chai teabags
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, bring the water to a boil over high heat. Add the tea bags, then turn off the heat. Let the tea steep for 6 minutes. Remove the tea bags from the pan. Stir in your sugar until it dissolves.
  • Use the tea in your favorite hot lattes, or store it in an airtight container in the fridge for iced chai tea lattes.

Notes

  • If you accidentally oversteep your tea, it will taste stronger and sometimes more bitter. You can dilute it by adding a tablespoon of water at a time until it reaches your preferred strength. You can also balance it out with extra milk or ice cubes when mixing your drink.
  • Chai Tea Concentrate is made by steeping tea and spices together with added sugars. Chai Syrup usually contains only spices and sugar without the tea.
  • Using a concentrate saves money compared to buying coffee shop drinks and gives you more control over ingredients. It is often a cleaner, healthier option than pre-made mixes.
  • You can use the concentrate with many flavor variations, such as Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai or Hot Caramel Apple Chai. There are endless ways to customize it.
