Dubai Chocolate Puppy Chow

I was deep in a craving spiral for something Dubai chocolate, but there was no way I was waiting around for Amazon to deliver fancy ingredients. So, I took matters into my own hands and hit my local grocery store. A few quick grabs later, and boom, Dubai Chocolate Puppy Chow was born. Think classic puppy chow, but with that rich pistachio chocolate flavor combo that totally levels it up. Crunchy, chocolatey, and dangerously addictive, good luck not eating half the bowl before it cools.

Add the chocolate chips, pistachio cream, butter, and tahini to a large mixing bowl. Microwave for 1 minute, then stir the mixture. Return the chocolate to the microwave, heating in 30-second bursts and stirring in between each interval, until fully melted.

Mix the chex into the chocolate mixture. Place the bowl in the fridge for 10 minutes to let the chocolate begin to set.

Place 2 cups of powdered sugar into a large Ziploc bag and add half of the Chex cereal. Shake the bag until the cereal is thoroughly coated, then add the rest of the cereal along with the remaining 1 cup of powdered sugar and shake.

Transfer the mixture to a sheet pan and wait until the chocolate is fully set.

FAQs (Because Life’s Too Busy for Guesswork)

Could I add extras into the mix?

Yes, if you would like to add extras like pretzels or pistachios, you could.

Where can I find the pistachio cream?

Now that it is becoming a more popular item, you can find it in some grocery stores alongside peanut butter and other nut butters. It tends to be on the top shelf if they carry it. Other than that, you can order the pistachio cream here.

Is this allergy-friendly?

It is not nut-free or dairy-free. But it is gluten-free; however, you can make it dairy-free if you use a dairy-free chocolate chip and substitute the butter for coconut oil.

As this is a Dubai chocolate puppy chow, should I add the Kataifi?

Though this is a Dubai chocolate dish that would typically have the Kataifi in it, this dish will not. The Rice Chex will take the place of the Kataifi in this recipe, adding a crunchy factor.

What are substitutions that I can make?

  • Milk chocolate – Alternatively, you can use semi-sweet or dark chocolate. Please note that these flavors are stronger, so you may not taste the pistachio as much.
  • Salted butter – If you need to use unsalted butter, just add a pinch of salt to the bowl when melting. Another option would also be to use coconut oil in place of the butter.
  • Rice Chex – Corn Chex is another option that would not change the flavor by much.

How should I store my leftovers?

  • Dubai Chocolate Puppy Chow should be stored in an airtight container or Ziploc bag for up to a week.
