Ingredients for Grinch Puppy Chow

Directions

Add the melting chocolate, peanut butter, and butter to a large mixing bowl. Microwave for 1 minute, then stir the mixture. Return the chocolate to the microwave, heating in 30-second bursts and stirring in between each interval, until completely melted.

Mix the Chex and crushed candy canes into the chocolate mixture. Place the bowl in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to start setting the chocolate.

Place 2 cups of powdered sugar into a large Ziploc bag and add half of the Chex cereal. Shake the bag until the cereal is thoroughly coated, then add the rest of the cereal along with the remaining 1 cup of powdered sugar and shake again.

Transfer the mixture to a sheet pan and sprinkle with the heart-shaped sprinkles. Let it sit until the chocolate is fully set.

FAQs (Because Life’s Too Busy for Guesswork)

Where can I find the heart sprinkles?

You can sometimes find them at big box stores like Walmart in the baking section or at craft stores like Michaels. I was able to find my heart sprinkles over on Amazon and have them shipped directly to my house.

Could I add extras into the mix?

Yes, if you would like to add extras like pretzels or Christmas M&M’s.

Is this allergy-friendly?

It is not nut-free or dairy-free. But it is gluten-free; however, you can make it dairy-free if you use a dairy-free chocolate chip and substitute the butter for coconut oil.

What are substitutions that I can make?

  • Salted butter – If you need to use unsalted butter, just add a pinch of salt to the bowl when melting. Another option would also be to use coconut oil in place of the butter.
  • Rice Chex – Corn Chex is another option that would not change the flavor by much.
  • Green melting chocolate- You can use white chocolate and add an oil-based food coloring to color it green.

How should I store my leftovers?

  • Puppy Chow should be stored in an airtight container or Ziploc bag for up to a week.
